Piedmont South Carolina
Piedmont is located along the Saluda River in Anderson and Greenville counties in Upstate South Carolina. According to the 2000 census the population was 4,684. Piedmont covers 8.8 square miles. Many people consider Williamston, Pelzer, West Pelzer, Piedmont, and Powdersville one community but they are all unique and deserve a look if you are thinking about buying real estate in the area. Piedmont is one of the oldest manufacturing towns in South Carolina. Its beginnings date back to 1843, when the area was known as Garrison Shoals and a small grist mill and a log cabin were the only structures. The town of Piedmont was created as the site for the Piedmont Manufacturing Company, which was organized in 1873 and began operation in 1876. This textile mill was one of the first large-scale cotton manufacturers in upstate South Carolina and had considerable influence on the development of other mills in the area.
