Long Creek South Carolina
Long Creek is an unincorporated community in western Oconee County in Upstate South Carolina. The population was reported in 2007 as 2,318. It is located within the borders of the Sumter National Forest. It is also where the Long Creek Academy is located, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. There is also white water rafting in the area on the Chattoooga River.
Long creek is an area of exceptional natural beauty. Long Creek Falls is located off the Chatooga River, which runs along the Georgia-South Carolina border. Long Creek Falls is a 50-foot cascade near the confluence with the Chattooga River. The 1.6 mile unofficial trail is difficult and is not well-marked. Long Creek Falls serves as something of a landmark for the paddling community since it spills almost directly into the Chattooga River. The multi-tiered, 50-foot cascade and accompanying plunge pool offer a nice break from the Chattooga’s difficult Section IV, flowing briskly nearby. Fortunately, hikers can also enjoy the view after a hour-long hike.
