Devils Fork State Park
Devils Fork State Park provides public access to Lake Jocassee, a largely undeveloped 7,500-acre reservoir tucked deep into the Blue Ridge. The park is located on the eastern edge of Sumter National Forest and on the southern edge of the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains in beautiful Oconee County SC. Lake Jocassee, created in 1973 by Duke Power Company and thankfully has been relatively untouched by development. Since Lake Jocassee is fed by 3 mountain rivers and numerous small waterfalls it stays refreshingly cool all year round. Devils Fork State Park opened in 1991 and provides the most modern amenities of any of South Carolina State Parks. It covers 644 acres of paradise in Upstate SC.
Devils Fork is easily reached from S.C. 11, the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway and I85. It is located about 3 miles off Hwy 11 near Salem SC.
Full campground amenities and modern villas also are highlights of the park. So are hiking and nature trails that provide the opportunity to appreciate sights ranging from rare Oconee bell spring flowers to the fall color show, while bald eagles and peregrine falcons patrol the mountain skies.
